Do you what the NSW Sheriffs Office does?
3R Consulting Pty Ltd was recently privileged to be contracted by the NSW Sheriff to facilitate 4 Cohorts of 3 day Leadership Development Workshops for all of their Sergeants, Inspectors and some Superintendents to help them turbo charge and build on their workplace culture at a leadership level.
I asked myself the same question and came up with the following answers.
The NSW Sheriffs were created in 1823. They protect the integrity of the NSW Justice System, which includes every court in New South Wales, every Jury and the processes involved, and the enforcement of debt recovery and evictions across NSW.
When you really assess what the staff of the NSW Sheriff does you can only be left with a sense of admiration.
Each day they have people coming into courts across NSW, often for the first time, with their anxiety levels beyond normal as an offender, victim or witness, or the family or friends of those people.
On top of that there are defence lawyers, prosecutors and agencies such as Police all walking into that courtroom to achieve opposing outcomes.
In the jury system the same thing applies everyone entering into that system has a sense of heightened anxiety.
In the enforcement system, when a sheriff knocks on your door they are normally there to recover a debt, acquire property to acquit a debt or evict you due to unpaid rent. They are not exactly welcome.
All of these arenas are extremely stressful, yet the strength of the NSW Sheriff is they have amazing de-escalation skills as despite this high risk environment, it would be extremely rare to recall the last time their activities and actions were ever front page news.
Another notable feature of the NSW Sheriff’s is that I have never seen such an organisation that truly reflects our modern Australian society. They truly have the largest range of diversity across every arena you could imagine from race, gender, age and disability. An example for everyone to follow.
3R Consultings Leadership Development Workshops provided exposure to leadership examples where leaders empower other to create supportive and inclusive workplaces where everyone can thrive both through Allan Sicard personally and other guest presenter’s including Rebecca Pinkstone, Michael Willing, Jan Willet and Jamie Caldwell, with Trina Jones and Steve Pearce to present to Cohort 3 next week.
The workshops are focused on 3 main themes
- Building a formidable and cohesive team that is focused on creating an inclusive and supportive culture where everyone can thrive.
- Testing their capabilities, enhancing and strengthening their abilities to work together when faced with their worst day at work by presenting them with a real scenario that can only be solved by them working together so that when their worst day happens they have an imprint on their mind what to do and who to call on for support.
- Identifying areas within the organisation that can be improved and providing strategies to achieve that improvement. Then presenting to The Sheriff and Deputy Sheriff of NSW.
Each cohort is divided in 4 syndicates and those groups work together within their own syndicates whilst also drawing of the strengths and diversity of all syndicates with the end result and energy in the room being simply amazing.
The feedback from both Cohort 1 and 2 over the last two weeks has been humbling.
The comments below are an example:
What did you like?
“ The vibrancy of the presentations and personal touches in subject matter along with the team building exercises.”
Would you recommend this training to other people?
“ I would happily recommend this training primarily due to the manner of presentation and subject matter.”
To top it off each participant has been provided with a copy of my memoir, “ The Courage to Lead,” purchased by The NSW Sheriff as a development resource.
An excellent example of an organisation showing they care for their people by providing first class training.
After Cohort 2 I received the following email:
“Good Afternoon Allan,
I just wanted to say thank you again for the workshop you facilitated.
Having had some time to reflect over the weekend, I have taken some admiration from your experiences and insight into leadership and what needs to be done to be effective in the work place.
I hope to be able to start impacting some change that will be a benefit to the Department in the future, and show not only my team but others that being a leader isn’t a “position” but a value that can be demonstrated daily.”
Thanks again,
NSW Sheriffs Officer”
